Fashioning a revolution

In a world that has become more connected and transparent over the past five years, from advances in blockchain technology to knowing the origin of each ingredient on your plate, fashion seems to be the final frontier for progress. Just five years ago in Bangladesh, 1,138 garment workers perished in the Rana Plaza factory collapse igniting millions of people around the world to demand transparency in the fashion supply chain by asking #whomademyclothes. In the aftermath of Rana Plaza, consumer demand for transparency and ethical practices in manufacturing grew and made its way into Nineteenth Amendment’s business model as an integral part of our mission to make positive change in the fashion industry.

Now in 2018, we believe that authenticity, ethical and sustainable manufacturing, and total transparency are not just nice-to-haves but requirements for fashion brands. From the start, we made sure that transparency and responsibility is at the heart of each step of the making and buying process on NineteenthAmendment.com.

For shoppers, Nineteenth Amendment is about giving everyone a voice in the future of fashion and in having a voice you should have all the information necessary to make an educated decision to purchase. Through our technology, any brand can easily give shoppers full transparency into their inspiration, design process and USA manufacturing practice. When you purchase a product from any of our designer brands you’ll get real time updates from the manufacturer about where your product is being made, where it is in the making process, and who are the people making your product.

For brands, we wanted to make it as easy as possible to adopt responsible practices in supply-chain management, inventory management, and production. In building our domestic manufacturing network, we took great pride in our responsibility to personally visit and vet each factory in our extensive network across the USA. For any brand, Nineteenth Amendment provides a business model and platform for launching scalable, responsible, and transparent products direct to consumers (find out more here).

While providing the right resources for brands to do better is a major milestone, the real progress can only happen with buy-in from all parts of the fashion ecosystem. From manufacturers to designers to – most importantly – you the shopper. This Fashion Revolution Week, we urge you to ask all brands, from those on Nineteenth Amendment to beyond, “Who made my clothes?”

At Nineteenth Amendment, we believe that you have the choice to determine the future of fashion and how that fashion gets made. Every garment that you purchase is a vote. As lovers of fashion we urge you, the shopper, to demand transparency from all retail companies, to make educated purchasing decisions, and to rally for better fashion with each purchase.

Because looking good has never had a better impact we’re donating 10% of all sales made April 24th 2018 – April 29, 2018 on NineteenthAmendment.com to FashionRevolution.org!
