Repair Cafe Peterborough is excited to be hosting our regularly scheduled Repair Cafe in conjunction with a Mend in Public Day event! The events will take place on April 26th from 1-4pm at Dreams on Beans (141 Charlotte St)
Mend in Public Day is an annual day of collective action which falls within the Fashion Revolution Week. The idea is simple: get out into your local community and stitch in protest against disposable fashion!
Dreams of Beans is opening its door to host this event that will run at the same time as the April Repair Cafe so grab your mending pile or other fiber craft and treat yourself to a beverage or snack at this exciting community event. By participating, you'll be part of a global creative action resisting the cycle of excess through repair and reuse.
Repair Cafe will be running as usual with all fixing stations available (sewing, electrical and wood/glue)
We can help you:
+ mend your winter gear (coats, gloves and hats)
+ sew the button back on your favourite sweater
+ glue the handle on your favorite coffee mug
+ clean the connections in your toaster
+ rewire your lamp, amp, or vacuum cleaner
+ and more!
We will also have guests Steve from Clean Up Peterborough and Eileen at the event collecting hard to recycle items. You can bring in any of the following items: toothpaste tubes, deodorant packaging, floss, floss picks, flexible cleaning wipe packaging, air and home care trigger heads, pumps and caps, razors, outer 4L milk bags, plastic bread tags, egg cartons, used eyeglasses, used Lego bricks, old towels and linens, fishing tackle/line, pop can tabs, dead batteries, old writing instruments and ink cartridges
So bring any of those items with you and chat with Eileen and Steve to learn more about the different recycling programs that help keep these hard to recycle items out of the landfill.
