Our semi-annual Fashion Show is almost here! This Spring semester we were inspired by the theme of LIBERATION. The world of fashion is usually seen as existing outside the realm of political life and in many ways reinforces the systems of oppression that plague today’s society. We in Fashion and Student Trends seek to disrupt this passive narrative.
For us, involvement in fashion has always been a political act because it has the ability challenge the very notion of what is mainstream. It has the potential to break down the barriers that try to overshadow and cloud our creative processes. It chips away at the foundation that currently maintains structures of power. It constructs a possibility for a better future.
Fashion is a site of LIBERATION.
We invite you all to experience the LIBERATION on April 30th from 7:00-10:00pm in Pauley Ballroom. Dress code is: show us how fashion liberates you.
At the door, SilkRoll is hosting a fashion drop off. SilkRoll is a digital exchange for high-end women’s fashion. Instead of shopping with cash, women turn their good quality fashion they don’t use into points. This innovative sustainable fashion company uses a unique point system, similar to frequent flyer miles. In addition, the platform offers a truly curated shopping experience with data driven style matching. SilkRoll is a fun and seamless way for women to get 8x more value out of their fashion than what any online consignment, resale or rental can offer.
Tickets will be on sale on Sproul for $10, via EventBrite for $12 or $15 at the door. We will be tabling the entire week before the show.
A portion of all proceeds will be donated to Designing A Difference, a San Francisco based apparel manufacturing company that trains and employs individuals with employment barriers such as homeless and at risk youth, veterans, and people with disabilities.
Come out and support all the hard work our designers, models, and committees have put towards the show this semester and our charity sponsor! Experience LIBERATION.
