In partnership with Fashion Revolution week, this workshop focuses on how to extend the life of your clothing by using exciting natural dye up-cycling techniques to transform them into beautiful new garments.
Limited places!

This one day class will introduce you to the bundle dyeing process, and show you how to set up your own indigo vat and use shibori tie dyeing techniques, to up-cycle your own items.

The morning will be spent going through some theory and guiding you through setting up the organic indigo vat, using just 3 simple natural ingredients – fructose, indigo and lime. You will learn how to tend the vat to keep it balanced and how to use it for dyeing cloth. You will be shown a few simple shibori tie dye techniques to fold and bind your own small garments or items (A 100% natural fibre small vest or lingerie is perfect – nothing too big, heavy or fluffy), to up-cycle with this beautiful blue colour.

In the afternoon we will go through the bundle dyeing process, using local, seasonal flowers, plant material and dye extracts. A length of organic British-grown silk with be provided and included in the cost, which you may use to make a scarf, cushion cover, ribbons or other creative project. You are also welcome to bring a 100% silk item of your own to up-cycle. (A small vest or lingerie is perfect – nothing too big or heavy).

You will leave with a good understanding of how to do bundle dyeing, set up and use an indigo vat for yourself, and continue your practice from home using simple kitchen equipment.

Class runs 10am – 4pm, with a 1 hour break for lunch from 1-2pm.

There are many cafes nearby to go to find lunch, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch with you.

1 day workshop price: £120 – includes all required dyes and a 50 x 140cm length of organic British-grown silk.

Please bring with you – 1 x 100% natural fibre small item or garment to up-cycle with organic indigo and shibori tie dyeing. 1 x 100% silk small item or garment to up-cycle with local, seasonal flowers and organic natural dyes and the bundle dyeing technique. You may also wish to bring rubber gloves, an apron or wear clothing which you don’t mind getting messy. Along with a journal and pen and camera to catalogue your creative journey.

There will also be our beautiful organic British-grown silk available by the metre to use in class, at an additional cost of £14 per 1/2 m or £28 per m.

Rubber gloves will be available for indigo dyeing. And print outs will be provided to cover both of the two techniques.
